5 | Three no shows this week to bugger up the game for everyone else, two without any explanation... As far as I recall when designing this idiot-proof system, an email reminder goes out at 8pm on Monday night to tell you whether you've made yourself available for selection in case you've forgotten). Then a second team sheet is produced sometime on Tuesday confirming selection. It's not hard. Anyway, having decided not to allow a ringer who is a known watch thief make up numbers early in the match, Germany managed to generally stay in touch with superior-manpowered Argies through most of the game until the last 20 minutes, at which point things started falling apart, the score going from 4-4 to 11-4 as heads began to fall and legs began to tire. After scoring three goals via deflections off the motorway, we have positive confirmation that these types of goals are allowed. As gordon put it during the intense negotiation: "They've been allowed before, so...". Nothing further notable about tonight other than Tomaso is pregnant again. |

4 | Amazing game of two 'arves (I feel like it's the same match report each week...). Germany score 4 goals in succession (I understand Yash scored a couple but was way to far back sweeping to witness any of this miracle); then Argentina respond with 7 to run out ultimately victorious. "The miracle of the match was how Germany managed to get into a 4-0 lead..." - heard after the match and loosely translated back from the original german. Man of the Match - De Rosnay Jr, for a solid all round performance; duffer of the match De Rosnay Snr, for not turning up and then somehow managing to blame his PA... In the pub: Krick, Gorton, Cuddigan, Romeo, Moretti, Warner. Krick announces his engagement and Gorton celebrates by buying a vintage prosecco that he had apparently been 'eyeing' on the wine list while others were ordering their food. |

5 | A game of two halves. One half with goals, one half without. Germany (though shirts are yet to arrive because we delegated this simple task to Hugo C this year...) came into the second half with a 1-0 lead courtesy of season debutant Max de Rosney. Then, in the second half, the footballing equivalent of 'all hell' breaks loose: Germany decides that defending "is for girls" and Romeo takes the opportunity to knock in a hat-trick (while missing the equivalent chances for three or four further hat-tricks); Warner adds a fourth to give Argentina a 4-1 lead with 15 minutes to go... As expected the foot is taken firmly off the pedal and, with some helpful shepherding of German players 'straight down the middle', Germany - with hitherto very latent talent - take it upon themselves to make a game of it, knocking in 4 quick goals to take the lead with minutes to spare. Gordon Baker, whose tactical decision to kick the ball out to the only place from which it could not be retrieved, thereby wasting valuable minutes with the score still at 4-1, appeared to have seriously backfired, then contrives to do a one two with an opponent on the edge of the box, slotting one 'home' to bring the scores level at 5 a piece. With still a minute to go, Wills takes it upon himself to leave the field of play and call "time", thereby precluding Argentina its much deserved injury time victory. Wills, "Sportsmanship" is not a vessel used for ferrying an athlete by sea from one continent to another... |

5 | Reasonable game. Argentina won 7-5 or thereabouts. Preposterous behaviour from Baker, Gorton & Romeo. When I arrived, Gordon was talking to some guy I didn't know. Apparently both Romeo and Gorton knew who he was, and saw him there. I assumed he was the noob (Zio?). In any event, Argentina were a man short for the match. Afterwards GHB said it was Zio and he didn't know whether he was playing or not. No-one thought to (a) read their automatic email with the team lists or (b) check that or the website, so Zio just wandered off. He's obviously pretty much as stupid as them, mind. |

4 | One of those games... Krick for reds turned up 25 minutes late (as usual) but reds were already 2 0 up by time of his arrival. Reds played with more energy throughout, usually first to the ball etc nice instinctive one-two's and every time they shot it seemed to go in. Blues found themselves helpless and somewhat hopeless. As I say, one of those games. |

5 | Ref controversially disallows last second equaliser from blues, as we had all stopped playing. Fuller scores two fabulous goals, one a blinding left foot volley, and there were lots of headers , some sweeping end to end one touch football, and lots of the usual rubbish too. Krick arrives at half time and does his best to scupper the reds advantage, giving away the ball as last man with his first touch, and almost redeeming himself with a crunching tackle. Good showing in the public house to watch Chelsea's demise. |

4 | The fewer the reds regulars, the better the result. Red subs triumph over a blue team that just couldn't get out of the corner. Yash's shooting boots were on - scored two, hit the post and forced a number of good saves. |

5 | Olly makes a brief appearance and misses Krick and ringer who join late. Sameer plays for both sides and is better for Reds. Hugo C's first appearance for weeks is limited to letting in soft goals in the first half and then making one save in the second. Paddy comes to the pub guaranteeing good post-match attendance for the first time in weeks. |

6 | Dubious goals committee should change the score of this match but no matter their ruling blues win. A good match with Arbib sacrificing his manhood to make a save that kept Blues on top. Blues ringer starts out like Ronaldo but the graph of step-overs to usefulness soon started to go the wrong way. Rumour has it that Paddy will be at the pub signing autographs next week. Let's hope for better pub attendance which has been poor with Olly away. |

8 | Arsenal at home and half-term were the perfect storm for attendance by worthless regulars. Thanks to Yash for helping find players to make it 8v7. Blues thrashed Reds - full of running and passing where Reds were full of whinging and pouting. Goals from impossible angles from Will and Andy and a looping header from Gordon effectively ended the content. Warner and Baker agree to disagree. |

2 | A brace for Heneage who eventually got into the swing of things and remembered he used to be good at football after several months (years?) in the worthless wilderness; however this was not enough to counter the generally dominant reds who scored some fairly impressive goals (notably a big curler from the more talented Baker brother, a volley from warner and a pile driver half volley from coltart - please forgive omissions but it's easier to remember one's own goals - not 'own goals' - and ones for which one has provided a valuable assist...). Jeff Romeo no show... poor show. |

3 | Good game, ending up in favour of the team that looked slightly worse on paper. Highlight being Hugo Fuller's unstoppable own goal which looped and dipped into the top left hand corner. Nick's birthday cake was shared seven ways in the pub afterwards, with the usual orders of chicken chiabatta and enchilladas made by the usual suspects. Yash no show despite everyone else managing to make it on an evening of a well-advertised tube strike... |

2 | Blues go for an all attacking approach with the late substitution of Sav for James Swallow. The approach backfires when John Romeo scores a left-footed hat rick to fire Reds to victory. MotM goes to William Stevenson. Why? It is true that he was a peripheral figure for most of the game but he showed great resilience even to finish the match after a flashback to one of the most difficult moments of his career. While the Westway 7-a-side pitch doesn't resemble the green grass of Craven Cottage, Wills must of looked up after getting nutmegged (and I retrieved it) expecting to see his family in the Riverside Stand trying not to make eye contact. And although the nutmeg was neither in the first five minutes nor in the area, it could not have been nice to have a skilful player dressed in dark blue humiliate him again. Credit to the mid-aged midfielder; he put himself in goal for ten minutes (where he could be heard talking to himself) before coming back onto the pitch. Goal of the match -- Simon. |

8 | Blues score for fun against a disorganised and demoralized opponent which, on paper, looked to be favoured. But that was before Yash had his best game of the season. Blues passed their way around, over and through Reds and ran out to a 6-0 lead at half time which came early due to a nasty injury to Tomaso. General consensus was that it was a ploy to get to the pub early and order the last dish of pasta but it looks like he'll be out for a few weeks. As the second half began, Tommy and the physio were escorted from the pitch under a hail of wayward shots from Blues. Reds score early to avoid a niller before Gordon scores a Suarez-esqe shot from inside his own half. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3MOXLe3T_o - commentary sounds like the noise Warner made when it went in). Reds reduced to shouting at each other to run, or to run somewhere else, or to come to or go long. A confrontation after the final whistle was only averted when Olly backed his captain. Reds organise a whip-round at the pub to pay for Hugo's physiotherapy. |

7 | A match of quality (for the blues) and incident for all. Blues race ahead by two as reds start as they ended -- by giving the ball away cheaply. Reds reply through two wonder goals -- the first a slide-rule pass from Mark with Olly sliding in to provide a Suarez-like finish. The second a pin-point 40-yard cross from Hugo over Gordon and onto the head of Jeff who powers it home (you are welcome Alexander) from just outside the area. Alexander answers with a fine goal of his own - dribbling across the field, shaping to play a reverse ball to Wills in space, and instead putting it into the top corner -- before Rupert evens things up with a trademark goal - lucking around three defenders before mishitting a shot that bends around three other defenders and the goalie hitting both posts before rolling slowly over the line. The remainder of the match was about the Blues defending. Saverio was Rupert's kryptonite - taking the ball off him at will - and demonstrated a new form of tackling (christened "the nap") to dispossess Nick. James, Sameer and Andy kept a high line and Reds obliged by passing it to them. Final score flatters the Reds who were outplayed. In the pub Warner bores everyone with observations about his phone's battery and all the Reds anxiously ask after Hugo C's health. MotM - Sameer |

2 | Reds were clearly determined to win tonight’s encounter by any means. This became evident in the opening five minutes when one of Reds strikers scythed down mercilessly Blues main striker who was nowhere near real play! That will teach Hugo to come back and defend! Reds had more of the territory and possession but every time they went ahead blues somehow came back. Half time was the turning point as Hugo Fuller pointed out that in its 20th year perhaps the usual tactic at worthless football of zonal defence and marking space may not be the way forward! A slightly confused reds then set about marking players and staying in their positions and oddly enough scored two or three unanswered goals against the 6’ 5” keeper that was G Baker returning from injury and doing his best impersonation of Paddy. At the pub when MoM votes were cast it was unanimous for M Davies. His movement and positional awareness were ethereal…..Blues win at the pub so overall 1-1 on aggregate. |

1 | General agreement that Hugo (Fuller) was the difference between the two sides on the night, in a tightly contested game in which Red's marginal superiority paid ultimate dividends. For Blues, Arbib a shadow of his former self (and I'm not talking about a recently successful diet); Garton had a good game and got a deserved goal for his dogged perseverance; Inglis noisy between the sticks, taunting Red attackers at will. |
